ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Athletic Field Lighting

Baboquivari High School, Topawa, AZ

Southwest Energy Solutions was challenged with providing outdoor lighting for Baboquivari High School High School’s football field that would not interfere with nearby Kitt Peak Observatory. Crews began by assembling and mounting an average of 11 fixtures on each lightning rack from the ground before erecting eight 80-foot poles. Adhering to factory specifications with precise accuracy, crews set the shades and lamp lights according to their position on the field. When the poles were placed into position and the lights were turned on for the first time, not a single adjustment was required – a first, according to the light manufacturer. The project was completed ahead of schedule and lighting focused on the field for minimal interference with the night sky and observatory telescopes.

The second phase of the project involved the renovation of eight existing buildings. This required the installation of multiple electrical systems while school was in session without disrupting classroom learning.  Despite inclement weather and unexpected challenges during construction, both phases were completed on schedule with minimal disruption to classroom learning.
