> Meter Reading History:
Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP):
TEP, a sister company, in an effort to restructure the core operations of TEP put the Meter Reading Operations out for bid. TEP required a company that could provide the following:
- Provide the same cost or lower the costs of per meter read
- Provide or surpass the level of quality Meter Reading Service
- Provide or surpass the level of direct customer contact.
- Provide or Surpass the high level of employee moral
- Provide or Surpass the relationship with the IBEW 1116
Southwest Energy Solutions (SES), The Beginning
SES jumped at the opportunity to be the provider for the meter-reading services. SES carefully listened to the TEP needs and came up with a meter reading solution package that matched the TEP requirements. Because we listened to their needs we earned the meter reading contract. Since, SES has successfully delivered on its meter-reading package by:
- Providing a lower per cost per read then the contract amount
- Continued commitment to reviews expenses monthly to lower costs
- Reading more meters per meter reader
- Exceeding the standard error accuracy of .0495 to an all time low of .02 error rate, thus creating further saving on re-reads.
- 20% Increase in membership for the IBEW 1116 union
- Continued commitment to closely work with the IBEW 1116
- Improved employee moral by offering a competitive wage and benefit package as well as bonus incentives.
- Continued commitment to restructure the meter reading department to meet the demands of a growing territory
In 2005 SES made the same commitments to Unisource Energy Services (UES) in Mohave County and has greatly improved meter reading reliability and accuracy. In that same year SES also began reading the water meters for the City of Kingman.
